ACKNOWLEDGE GOD IN ALL SITUATIONS
INTRODUCTION: The key
word in our theme is acknowledging. Simply put, to acknowledge means “declare
to be true or admit the existence or reality or truth of something. A God
fearing person would necessarily admit God to be the source of his blessings
and on the other hand the only source that can alter his or her adverse situations.
Job in responding to his wife’s counsel attested that man shall experience good
and evil times at the hand of God, (Job 2:10b). Jesus Christ acknowledged the
supremacy of God, as he declared, Abba,
Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me:
nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt, (Mark 14:36). As
Christians, we are here instructed to surrender wholly unto God’s will. Very few
people confess God as the source of their outstanding performance or wealth.
The Proverbs again instruct Christians to “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding, in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths,” (Prov. 3:5-6). Knowing that man shall be in trouble, God assured, I will be with him in trouble, (Psalm 91:15b).

EXPERIENCES OF THOSE WHO ACKNOWLEDGED GOD IN
THEIR SITUATIONS
When
Jephthah’s help was sought when the children of Ammon made war against Israel,
Jephthah uttered all his words before the Lord in Mizpeh (Judges 11:11). To provoke
God into action, Jephthah made a vow unto the Lord (Judges 11:30-31).
When the
Amalekites did not only attack Ziklag but took the two wives of David and
others captives, David inquired of the Lord, saying, “shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them? “And He answered him,
“Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.
“The Christian is prayerfully admonished to acknowledge the wisdom and might of
God.
When the
children of Moab and Ammon came against King Jehoshaphat of Israel, he (King
Jehoshaphat) cried out to the Lord for deliverance, (2 Chron. 20:5-12; 20-24).
To remove
her affliction, Hannah was specific in her petition to God, she further made a
vow (I Sam. 1:10-11, 17-21).
Jabez was
given a name by her mother which most people would not take kindly (I Chron.
4:9), but he refused to accept the opinion of his mother and other people. He
rather called on God to bless him, enlarge his coast, keep him away from evil
so that he may not be grieved. And assuredly, God granted his request (v. 10)
The
Christian is assured of success and prosperity, when he keeps away from the
counsel of the ungodly, and other sinful ways, and should take delight in the
law of the Lord (Joshua 1:8; Psalm 1:1-3).
Forsaking
sensual pleasure, Joseph acknowledged God’s holiness by refusing to lie with
Potiphar’s wife (Gen. 39:7-11).
CONCLUSION
Dear child
of God, the instances we examined above were intended to remind us that,
whatever situation we find ourselves in life, we should acknowledge God as the
source of every good thing and the only one who can change every adverse
condition. Do not accept the opinion or thought of men over your life. As God
took away reproach from the faces of those who called upon Him in the days
past, He shall take away reproach from our faces as we acknowledge Him in every
situation. A true child of God should wait on God for direction in every
endeavour.
